KillerReviews.com reviews CONDEMNED

A new review of Condemned is now up at KillerReviews.com. An excerpt below:

Shai is able to get the best out of all three leads in performances that are rare for an independent short . . . There isn’t much that happens in Condemned. There are no explosions, no prison lesbian scenes or black humor to break the mood. Instead, there is just a short snippet of a story, told expertly and directed by a craftsman that we will continue to watch to feature films.

CONDEMNED Review at By Kubrick’s Beard

A new review of Condemned has just been posted at the film blog, By Kubrick’s Beard. An excerpt below:

What is so unique is that none of it is played for cheap thrills, shock value or nodding approval, at the heart of Condemned lays a story about a female prisoner’s vulnerability and fear; real or not and a patience of mood, tone and execution . . . It’s a wonderful film of the moment made by a rare stylish talent that has the depth and real cinema knowledge to back up the technique, make no mistake Oren Shai is one to watch for the future.

David Del Valle Reviews CONDEMNED for Films in Review

I’m thrilled to have David Del Valle, whose latest Camp David column featured never-before published interviews with the great Vincent Price, review Condemned for Films in Review.

As usual, an excerpt below, and the full piece right here.

This short film is a tour de force on every level . . . Shai has the talent to follow Tarantino into the rarified company of young directors with an eye for detail and a love of film history which, in Shai’s case, shines like a new penny in the sunlight.

Moon in the Gutter recommends CONDEMNED

Jeremy Richey just posted a wonderful recommendation for Condemned on his excellent film blog, Moon in the Gutter. An excerpt attached below, and the full piece right here.

This dazzling 14 minute film is a beautifully shot, and wonderfully realized, genre-bending tribute to Women in Prison films, Noir, Italian Westerns and Fifties Melodrama . . . Condemned is one of the biggest and most pleasant surprises I have had in quite awhile.

CONDEMNED on Sergio Leone and the Infield Fly Rule

Dennis Cozzalio featured Condemned in his great film blog, Sergio Leone and the Infield Fly Rule today. Check out an excerpt below.

Shai’s achievement . . . is one of patience with building mood and ambience that is possible only when a director gets a handle of how to modulate little things like time and space, making our anticipation of the gathering of bits of information in such prescribed worlds as prison cells and haunted apartments of the utmost importance . . . Condemned is a lovely illustration of the possibilities inherent in investigating genre forms when the director has something other than shock effects on his mind.
